Ken Griffin

After graduating in 1962 with a degree in chemistry from Hull University, Ken worked as a research chemist for ICI. He later qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney before leaving the industry and joining Saunders & Dolleymore as a Partner in 1982. Ken specialises in chemistry and chemical engineering, plastics and synthetic fibre technology, textiles, and trade mark matters. He has appeared before the European Patent Office on numerous occasions, and is currently Chair of the Information Resources Committee of the International Trademark Association. He is also a member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys, a registered Trade Mark Attorney and Community Trade Mark Attorney.

John Kensett

John graduated from Nottingham University in 1983 with a degree in physics. He has experience in both private practice and in an industrial patent department and qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 1987 and as a European Patent Attorney in 1988. He joined Saunders & Dolleymore in 1989 and became a partner in 1992. John specialises in patent application and prosecution in the physics, electronics, computing and telecommunications fields. He is a Registered Trade Mark Attorney, a Community Trade Mark and Design Attorney and a member of FICPI, and regularly attends their international meetings. John is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.

Chris Parry

Chris graduated from Exeter University in 1974 with a degree in Engineering Science. After 8 years as an examiner in the UK Patent Office, specialising in agricultural machinery, he joined the profession in 1983 and qualified as both a UK and European  patent attorney in 1986.  He joined Saunders & Dolleymore in 1992 and became a partner in the same year. Chris divides his time between mechanical patents and trade marks and is a member of CIPA, ITMA and INTA.

 

Janice Trebble

Janice joined Saunders & Dolleymore in February 1986, becoming a partner in 1997.  Janice has a BA in Mathematics and Earth Sciences and has an ongoing interest in matters both technical and scientific.  She has wide experience of trade mark practice, having dealt with most aspects of the protection, exploitation and enforcement of trade marks in the UK, the EC, under the Madrid arrangement directly, and in most other countries via local attorneys.  She is a Registered Trade Mark Attorney, a Fellow of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and an authorised representative before OHIM (the EU Trade Marks Registry).  Janice is a contributor to Sweet & Maxwell’s European Trade Mark Litigation Hand Book and to Markenkompendium published by Wila Verlag Wilhelm Lampl GmbH.

Stuart Fitchett

Stuart graduated from Aberdeen University in 1987 with a degree in physics and joined the patent department of a multinational electronics and telecommunications company. The diverse interests of this company resulted in him additionally obtaining considerable experience in the fields of software, fluid dynamics and electro mechanics. Stuart joined Saunders and Dolleymore in 2002 and became a partner in 2003. He is a both a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney.

Philippa Eke


Philippa graduated from Bristol University in 1990 with a degree in Chemistry.  She commenced training with Saunders & Dolleymore in 1991 and qualified as a Trade Mark Attorney in 1994 and as a Chartered Patent Attorney and a European Patent Attorney in 1995.  She is also a Community Trade Mark and Design Attorney.  After obtaining experience in the patent department of a multi-national consumer products company and in another firm of patent & trade mark attorneys, where she became a partner, Philippa re-joined Saunders & Dolleymore in 2004.  She specialises in chemical and mechanical patent matters and in trade mark matters.

Vicki Cowland

As a secretary/PA to the head of Legal Affairs at a major entertainment/communications group, one of Vicki’s roles was to  co-ordinate with external lawyers. This lead to an interest in Trade Mark law and she worked as a Trade Mark formalities assistant in a law firm in London before commencing training as a Trade Mark Attorney . Vicki joined Saunders & Dolleymore in 2000. She qualified as a Trade Mark Attorney in 2002 and subsequently became a European Community Trade Mark Attorney. Vicki now practices in all areas of Trade Mark law.

Mike Enskat


Mike graduated from Queen Mary College London University in 1963 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked successfully in the engineering industry before switching to Intellectual Property in 1966. He worked in industrial and private practice before joining Saunders & Dolleymore in 1984. In 2003 he formally retired as a partner but remains a part time consultant (Of Counsel) to the firm. Mike specialises in patent work in all electrical and mechanical disciplines. He has had many successes in Oppositions and Appeals.  Mike is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers. He is also a European Patent Attorney, a Registered  Trade Mark Attorney and a Community Trade Mark and Design Attorney.

Gillian Herod-Hempsall

Gillian graduated from Bristol University in 1972 with a degree in Microbiology. She has had experience in both private practice and in a pharmaceutical industrial patent department. She qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 1976 and became a European Patent Attorney in 1978. She started working with Saunders & Dolleymore in 1990. Gillian has had wide experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields, including enforcement.

Joanne Nottage

Joanne graduated from the University of Hertfordshire in 1996 with an LLB law degree. She joined Saunders & Dolleymore in 1997, first working in Trade Mark and Patent formalities. Joanne passed the Trade Mark formality exam in 2000 and has since concentrated on Trade Mark practice, dealing with the prosecution, protection and enforcement of Trade Marks in the UK, the EC and Worldwide. Joanne is currently studying to qualify as a Trade Mark Attorney.

Rupert Knights

Rupert graduated from Loughborough University in 2001 with a degree in Product Design and Manufacture. After 3 years as an examiner in the UK Patent Office, working in mechanical and electromechanical fields, he decided he wanted to take a more active and client-focussed role in the protection and enforcement of IP rights so joined Saunders & Dolleymore as a technical assistant in 2005. Rupert is currently studying to qualify as a Patent Attorney.
